AKC Farm Dog Test

Your dog may respond beautifully to commands at home and in public—but how would he do in a farm setting? There’s an easy way to find out: enroll him in a Farm Dog Certified (FDC) test.

Open to all breeds, the FDC test evaluates your dog through 12 exercises designed to reflect real farm environments. These include safely working near livestock (always securely penned), jumping on and remaining steady atop hay or straw bales, navigating unusual terrain, and stepping or jumping over logs. There is no herding involved. Instead, the test focuses on your dog’s ability to demonstrate self-control, confidence, and trust in you or his handler—key traits of a capable farm dog.
